How the calculation works
Required final score = [target − current × (1 − weight)] ÷ weight, with weight expressed as a decimal.
The maximum course grade assumes a 100% final; the minimum assumes a 0% final. A required score above 100% cannot be reached without extra credit under this model.
Worked example
With an 85% coursework grade, a 90% target, and a final worth 30%, you need 101.67% on the final. A 100% final would yield 89.5%.
Limits and assumptions
Assumes the remaining course weight belongs entirely to the final exam. Does not model curves, dropped assignments, minimum exam requirements, or extra credit.

The target is unreachable under this model without extra credit or a changed grading policy.
What if it is negative?
Even a zero on the final meets the numerical target, subject to any school minimum-score policy.
