How the calculation works
For included courses, quality points = credits × grade points. Semester GPA = semester quality points ÷ semester credits. Cumulative GPA combines semester quality points with prior GPA × prior credits, then divides by combined credits.
The supplied letter mapping is A+/A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D− = 0.7, F = 0. For weighted letter grades, Honors adds 0.5 and AP/IB adds 1.0 to passing grades. F stays at zero. These are editable planning conventions via the exact grade-point input, not universal school rules.
Numeric grade points are taken exactly as entered; no course-level bonus is added again. Weighted mode accepts up to 5.0. Excluded letter-grade rows contribute neither credits nor quality points.
Required future GPA = [target × (prior credits + future credits) − prior GPA × prior credits] ÷ future credits. If it exceeds the scale maximum, the target is unreachable under these assumptions.
Worked example
A 3-credit course at 4.0 and a 4-credit course at 3.0 give 24 quality points and a 3.429 semester GPA. Add 30 prior credits at 3.0 for (90 + 24) ÷ 37 = 3.081 cumulative GPA. With 30 credits at 3.0, reaching 3.2 after 15 more credits requires a future GPA of 3.6.
Limits and assumptions
Use one consistent grading scale for current and prior coursework. Repeated-course replacement, transfer exclusions, school rounding and minimum grade policies are not automated. The built-in letter and Honors/AP/IB conventions may differ from your school; enter exact numeric points when needed.

Can I calculate cumulative GPA?
Yes. Enter your prior GPA and completed credits, then add the new courses. Leave prior credits at zero for semester GPA only.
Can I use letters such as A− or B+?
Yes. Choose Letter grades. Read the supplied mapping; if your school uses another conversion, select Grade points and enter its exact values.
How do weighted courses work?
In weighted letter mode, passing Honors courses add 0.5 points and AP/IB courses add 1.0; F remains zero. In numeric mode, enter the final grade points including any school weighting.
How do I find the GPA I need next semester?
Choose target planning and enter your prior GPA, completed credits, target GPA and future credits. The result states whether it fits the chosen scale.
How do I exclude pass/fail or withdrawn courses?
In letter mode, choose Exclude. Otherwise remove the row. Only exclude courses when your school’s policy calls for it.
