How to use this concrete footing calculator

Select a geometry, enter dimensions and the number of matching elements, then add your material allowance. Dimensions are inputs to the estimate, not a structural recommendation.

How the calculation works

Strip volume = length × width × depth. Rectangular pad volume uses the same prism formula. Round volume = π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × depth. Convert dimensions into a consistent unit before multiplying.

Multiply by matching elements and then by (1 + allowance percentage ÷ 100). Divide cubic feet by 27 for cubic yards, or multiply by 0.028316846592 for cubic meters.

Whole bags = adjusted concrete volume ÷ the entered mixed bag yield, rounded up. Bag cost uses whole bags; bulk material cost uses required volume in the supplier’s selected pricing unit.

Worked example

One 40 ft strip, 16 in wide and 8 in deep, contains 35.5556 cu ft. With 10% extra, the order estimate is 39.1111 cu ft (1.4486 cu yd). At 0.6 cu ft yield, that is 66 whole bags. At $7 per bag, bagged material is $462.

Frequently asked questions

Can I calculate several matching pads or piers?

Yes. Enter their count. If sizes differ, calculate each group separately and combine unrounded volumes before ordering.

Does the tool choose a safe footing size?

No. Use dimensions from your project design. Soil, loads, frost and reinforcement are not modeled.

Why is bulk cost lower than a delivered quote?

It includes only the required volume times the entered unit price. Supplier minimums, delivery, pump charges, labor and taxes must be allowed for separately.

Can I use metric inputs?

Yes. Choose Metric in Currency & units. Dimensions, bag yield and displayed volumes convert; the supplier pricing unit stays explicitly selected.
