How the calculation works
Tip = bill amount × tip percentage ÷ 100, rounded to the nearest cent. Total = bill + rounded tip.
The per-person headline rounds each equal share up to a cent so the bill is covered.
For a split that adds to the exact total, divide total cents by people. Allocate one extra cent to as many people as the remainder requires.
Worked example
On an $85.50 bill, an 18% tip is $15.39 and the total is $100.89. Split among three people, each pays $33.63. A $10 total split three ways is $3.34 for one person and $3.33 for the other two.
Limits and assumptions
The entered bill is both the tip base and the amount split. Separate tax, discounts, or existing service charges are not added or removed. All bill amounts use the selected calculation currency.
