Pay is a gross estimate. No automatic time rounding, deductions, tax, or local employment rules are applied.

What this result includes

One seven-day workweek with up to 28 shifts. Overnight shifts are assigned wholly to their starting day; the model does not split midnight, daylight-saving changes, time zones, statutory workdays, or multiple pay rates. The daily-plus-weekly option does not stack overtime premiums. This is a configurable estimate, not a jurisdiction-specific payroll calculation.

How to use this time card calculator

Enter each shift under the day it starts. An end time earlier than the start crosses midnight. Choose no overtime, weekly, daily, or both thresholds; daily overtime is not counted twice.

How the calculation works

Each shift’s paid minutes equal elapsed clock minutes minus unpaid break minutes. If the end time is earlier than the start, 24 hours are added to the end. Shifts may not overlap.

For daily overtime, combine paid minutes for shifts starting on each day, then take the amount above the daily threshold. For weekly overtime, take the amount above the weekly threshold after removing any daily overtime already assigned. The two premiums do not overlap.

Gross pay = regular minutes ÷ 60 × hourly rate + overtime minutes ÷ 60 × hourly rate × overtime multiplier. The regular and overtime pay components are rounded separately to cents.

Worked example

Five shifts from 09:00 to 17:00 with a 30-minute unpaid break each give 37 hours 30 minutes. At $20/hour and a 40-hour weekly threshold, gross pay is $750. A separate 22:00–06:00 shift with 30 minutes unpaid contributes 7 hours 30 minutes to the day it starts.

Limits and assumptions

One seven-day workweek with up to 28 shifts. Overnight shifts are assigned wholly to their starting day; the model does not split midnight, daylight-saving changes, time zones, statutory workdays, or multiple pay rates. The daily-plus-weekly option does not stack overtime premiums. This is a configurable estimate, not a jurisdiction-specific payroll calculation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add more than one shift per day?

Yes. Add a shift and choose the same starting day. Overlapping clock intervals are rejected, including overlaps caused by overnight shifts.

Do breaks count as paid hours?

The entered break minutes are unpaid and deducted once from that shift. Enter 0 for paid breaks. For several unpaid breaks, enter their total.

How do daily and weekly overtime work together?

Daily overtime is assigned first. Weekly overtime applies only to the remaining minutes above your weekly threshold, so no minute earns two premiums.

Can I save the time card?

Download the current valid shift breakdown as a local CSV. It includes the rate, overtime settings, totals, and assumptions; nothing is uploaded.

Does this apply local overtime laws?

No. Enter settings suitable for the scenario you want to estimate. Multiple pay rates, double-time tiers, and local employment rules require a separate payroll model.
